The Forlorn

I figured it's time to shed a little light on all the doodles you've been seeing from me lately. It was my goal at the beginning of this year to get my pen moving, drawing has never been my strong suit and I wanted to change that. Upon doing so, I've stumbled into a whole new world of characters and story.

If you've been watching my twitter/flickr feeds you know I've been referring to these characters as 'The Forlorn'. Although they look sad, they weren't always the glum faced, empty chested souls you've been seeing. Their story will start to emerge and progress as I take them from doodle to many different mediums to convey their story.

While I won't delve to far into their storyline right now, be ready for a lot of cool new things with this cast of characters. I have a lot of plans for them and I will be sharing the progress along the way. I will be updating their progress on this blog, but I've also started a Tumblr dedicated to just The Forlorn if you're on there and would like to keep up. I'll be changing and upgrading the look of that site, as I gather more material.

Yuudoku is coming...

I'm happy to finally share a small teaser with all of you for an upcoming vinyl release with Max Toy Co! This has been awhile in the making and it's been just about impossible not to shout it out to the world. I want to thank Mark for giving me this awesome opportunity to add a character to his already stellar lineup of kaiju monsters! Without further adieu, here's the teaser of Yuudoku!

Born off the Coast of Kikorman Island, Yuudoku lived a happy life among the reefs in the crystal blue waters. He enjoyed being surrounded by his friends and providing housing for them and their kin.

All of that changed when greedy tankers began dumping toxic waste into the pristine waters. While no one knew these dastardly deeds were being committed, the results began to change and warp the once pure waters of Kikorman Bay.

Left with the choice of fleeing to cleaner waters or death, Yuudoku’s friends began to disappear. The tankers eventually moved on to spread their filth elsewhere, but Yuudoku’s friends still fled. It wasn’t the boats that they were afraid of anymore, it was him.

Yuudoku had mutated into a hulking tentacled beast. His body that was once a home had become a poisonous wasteland. Plumes of toxins spewed from his back, making it impossible for his friends to be close to him without endangering their lives.

He found himself alone; radiating with angry despair. Yuudoku vowed revenge against those who brought this dismal fate upon him.

"Garamuck" for GARAMANIACAL

Good morning everyone! I know I've been quiet the past month, but I've been busy busy in the Gorilla Mouth studio. Here's one of the things I've been working away on. I give you "Garamuck"! My custom Bandai Garamon for the GARAMANIACAL show at FOE Gallery on February 10th. A huge thanks to Michael at Garamania and Jim at FOE for putting this show on. I know I've seen a lot of great pieces so far and I can't wait to see this whole show together.

If you don't already know, I'm a big fan of Garamon so it was an honor to put my twist on a character I love. I had a lot of fun with this custom, even if it was a lot of tedious work from start to finish.

Okay enough talk, enjoy the pics!

We Are Not Toys

The amazing Task One has put together an awesome exhibit of photoshop skills and custom toys for a new project called We Are Not Toys.

We are not toys started after I photoshopped one of my own custom designer toys into a video game background. Someplace I thought it might live or might be it's natural habitat. Being a great admirer of all the artists around me and in my field, I wondered what some of their creations might look like with the same treatment. What started out as fun, turned into a bit of OCD and before I knew it I had a hundred of these images. I figured what better
to do with them then share them with all of you.

The name comes from the struggle that the custom designer toy artist goes through in this newer genre of contemporary art. Each piece may have started with a vinyl toy skelaton, But with the help of the artists hands has become a one of kind original piece of art. The materials needed at times being way higher in price and time spent painting all angles of a figure sometimes far exceed that of a canvas. With your final piece still referred to or considered a toy, It's a challenge to make a living or charge even minimum wage for your skill or talent as you would with finished paintings.

100% of the prophet after the cost of printing each print goes go to the artist. So, please help support these great artists, snatch one up and give it a good home. The calanders are slightly above costs which pay for site promotion and
shipping materials. The Book is being sold at the cost it took to make each one upon order to help spread the artist's work around and to stay affordable to you. So wearenottoys.net is not making any money off the artists or backgrounds.
which bring us to our disclaimer.

DISCLAIMER: We here at wearenottoys.net are in the long and tideious process of contacting and obtaining permission for some of the photos used in the backgrounds of these images. Some photos may be up for a limited time and subject to change.

Hope you enjoy...

Task One

Head over to the site and grab a print, calendar, or book!! This is one fantastic idea I'm happy to see come to life.

GARAMANIACAL

February 10-March 4. Opening reception Friday, February 10 6-9pm.

GARAMANIACAL, an homage to the clunky, crusty, fish-lipped, oil-belching, high-rise-wrecking meteorite monster Garamon and his "recycled" alter ego, the friendly and excitable Pygmon.

I'm happy to announce that I'll be taking part in the GARAMANIACAL show at FOE in February. Mike at Garamania has put together a killer lineup for this show. I was thrilled to be asked to do this show, Garamon is one of my all time favorite kaiju monsters.

Bio-Buildman Pre-Order Starts NOW!

SURPRISE!

If you're up late this evening and you've been waiting for me to announce more details about the Bio-Buildman, you're in luck! I went ahead and took pics of the individual pieces for the shop for those who wold like to order bits instead of the complete figure.

Head to the SHOP now to snag yours before the pre-order ends.

Hailing from the murky marshes of Sesar IV, the Bio-Buildman are an organically reptilian race of hunters. Upon hatching, they're left to tend to themselves. While young, the Bio-Buildman live on instinct that turns to cunning shrewdness as they age. Each Bio-Buildman's carapace armor and weaponry grows specifically to the survival needs of each individual.

The planet of Sesar IV is full of ever-changing alliances of Bio-Buildman. But one thing remains clear to all who've tried to lay their claim to Sesar IV, the Bio-Buildman will unite and crush any foe that encroaches on their territory.

Bio-Buildman

Besides the secret kaiju sculpt and a commission I've been working, I was able to knock out this long overdue glyos custom finally.

The name stems from the fact that a few people were calling it "Bio-Buildman" and it just kinda fit. I plan on cleaning it up with some sanding, then potentially casting it. I also plan on writing up a background and doing more customs of this nature.
